El Cajon, CA–A man and a dog were found dead early Saturday morninggfollowing a residential fire in El Cajon, according to Heartland Fire and Rescue.
Firefighters responded at around 1:56 a.m. to a home in the 1400 block of Melody Lane after receiving a report of a possible victim inside the residence.
When crews arrived, they found the front of the home fully engulfed in flames. They entered the home and conducted a search for victims.
Crews discovered the body of a deceased man inside the home, along with a deceased dog. No other victims or injured people were found.
Seventeen fire personnel responded to the incident. No injuries to firefighters or other emergency responders were reported.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 2:15 a.m.
Investigators said the fire appeared to have originated in or near a bedroom. The exact cause remains under investigation.
The El Cajon Police Department, San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, Santee Fire Department, Lakeside Fire Protection District and San Miguel Fire Rescue assisted Heartland Fire and Rescue at the scene.
