Oceanside, CA–The Oceanside Public Library is launching its Summer Reading 2025 program for adults, teens, and children this summer.
All ages earn prizes and are invited to attend fun, literacy-based events from June 1 through August 2.
This year’s theme is “Level Up at your Library,” with a focus on learning through games and play. The Friends of the Oceanside Public Library sponsor Summer Reading for all ages.
Kids under 12 earn prizes for reading and can also complete engaging activities. After reading, or being read to, 10 hours or 10 books, kids earn a prize bag, which includes a free book, museum and food coupons, and craft kits. Families can enjoy storytimes, book clubs, and attend other entertaining and educational events, such as, for 5 and under and their caregivers, the Creature Features Workshop with the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum on June 23 at 9 a.m. at the John Landes Community Center Library, 2855 Cedar Road, and Little Learners Music Class with Nightingale Music Studio June 24 at 9 a.m. at the Civic Center Library, 330 North Coast Highway.
Teens, ages 13 to 17, earn a prize bag full of goodies and a free book for reading for 5 hours. Library events for teens include a variety of book clubs, games, and art activities. Teens can get creative by attending Games and Grub on Tuesdays at the Civic Center Library from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. or Thursdays at the John Landes Community Center from 12 to 1 p.m., as well as Big Blanket at the Library Cozy Games June 16 at Joe Balderrama Park, 709 San Diego Street, at noon or on July 1 at 11 a.m. at the Civic Center Library. Teens, ages 14 to 17, who are looking for something to do and want to give back to their community, can sign up to volunteer at the Library this summer.
Adults can also participate in the Summer Reading program. They can read books and complete related activities to receive a free book and a playing deck of cards. Adults can participate in monthly book clubs and other special events. Library events for adults include Wind-Up Vinyl Hour on the 2nd Monday of the month throughout the summer, starting June 9 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Civic Center Library Courtyard, and Puzzlepalooza on June 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Civic Center Library Community Room and Courtyard.
The library will offer a free Lunch at the Library program for all kids ages 18 and under. The program starts June 16 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the Civic Center Library, and 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the John Landes Community Center Library and at Joe Balderrama Park. In addition to free meals, enrichment activities for kids will be provided.
From books, e-books, and e-audiobooks, to movies and toys, Oceanside Public Library offers access to the library online or in-person at its multiple locations. Oceanside Public Library aims to empower the community by promoting literacy, information access, civic engagement, cultural inclusiveness and openness to new ideas.
