Los Angeles, CA–Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department are asking for the public’s help in locating a man identified as a person of interest and his missing 5-year-old daughter following the death of a woman in the West Adams area.
According to police, officers from the LAPD’s Southwest Division responded to a welfare check shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Monday in the 2600 block of South Alsace Avenue. Upon entering the residence, officers discovered an adult woman dead inside the home.
Investigators said preliminary findings indicate the victim died as a result of violence. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity pending further investigation.
Police have identified the victim’s husband, Ruben Fregoso, as a person of interest in the case. Detectives are also searching for the couple’s 5-year-old daughter, Daleyza Fregoso, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
The California Highway Patrol activated an Amber Alert on behalf of the LAPD on Monday across Los Angeles, Riverside and San Diego Counties, as authorities continued searching for the missing girl whose disappearance triggered a region‑wide response.
During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Fregoso allegedly made statements suggesting he intended to leave the country, raising concerns about the safety and location of the child.
On Tuesday, authorities found the 2019 Land Rover Discovery that Fregoso had been driving in a San Ysidro parking garage, but both the suspect and the child were still missing.
The investigation remains ongoing.
