Lemon Grove, CA–Keep California Beautiful has recognized Lemon Grove as having achieved a “Clean California Community” designation.
Lemon Grove is the first city in San Diego County and one of the first in the state to achieve the designation. The recognition marks a major turning point for the city, which is in the beginning of a widespread community renaissance.
The designation is the work of Revitalize Broadway Lemon Grove, a group of community action leaders, whose efforts in the city’s downtown corridor checked all the boxes to receive the designation.
Chelsea Gastelum, president of Revitalize Broadway Lemon Grove, praised the community’s effort in achieving the recognition.
“We are seeing the various community groups working together, rolling-up their sleeves, and beautifying our city. Working together makes us a stronger force for action,” Gastelum said. “This designation recognizes our hard work, dedication, and commitment to reverse years of urban decay. Lemon Grove is ascending, and we are so grateful to Keep California Beautiful for recognizing our hard work with this Clean California Community designation.”
In addition to inspiring deep community pride, this commitment to a clean and vibrant city is profoundly impacting the area’s small businesses.
Rashid Wahidi owns the Lemon Grove Bistro, a local restaurant in the city’s historic Sonka building, and said the beautification is spurring new investment.
“Lemon Grove is significantly improving thanks to our community, faith leaders, and small businesses,” said Wahidi. “We are so proud to see Revitalize Broadway and Chelsea achieve this designation, and we invite everyone to eat on our beautiful patio and see why we’re so proud.”
