OCEANSIDE–A vehicle collision early Saturday morning killed a male pedestrian on State Route 76 in Oceanside, the Oceanside Police Department reports.

The fatal collision occurred approximately at 12:48 a.m. on State Route 76 westbound just east of Old Grove. Police officers found an unresponsive man lying in the westbound lanes of State Route 76 east of the intersection. Despite life saving measures, the pedestrian died at the scene.

A 2005 Lexus sedan was traveling westbound on State Route 76 in the number one lane when the pedestrian was crossing in the middle of the road. The driver didn’t see the man until the last second due to darkness and collided with the pedestrian. The driver of the Lexus immediately pulled to the center median and waited for police to arrive. Neither Alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision. It is unknown the pedestrian was under the influence of any substance at this time.

The name of the deceased pedestrian has not been released pending family notification.
