Several arrested for violating Vista’s Homeless Encampment Ban

By Gina Yarbrough

Vista, CA–Fourteen people were arrested for violating the City of Vista’s ban on homeless encampments on Thursday, authorities said.

Among those detained was a suspect wanted on a felony warrant for vehicular manslaughter.

Deputies from the Vista Sheriff’s Station’s Community Policing and Problem-Solving Unit carried out an operation targeting unauthorized homeless encampments in the 400 block of La Tortuga Drive. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office’s news release, the operation was initiated in response to persistent community complaints about encampments and related public nuisance issues.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes its commitment to a balanced strategy of outreach and enforcement. They work with community partners to connect individuals experiencing homelessness with available services while addressing criminal activities that impact public safety.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious or criminal activity by contacting the Sheriff’s Office at (858) 868-3200.
