CARLSBAD–A single traffic collision Saturday morning killed a driver, and left two passengers, one juvenile and a female uninjured in Carlsbad, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.

The collision occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. on Palomar Airport Road and Paseo Del Norte over the I-5 freeway.

Police officers found the driver of a black Chevrolet pick-up had been involved in a single vehicle collision. The driver, a 55-year-old man from Oceanside, died at the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision, but the investigation is still underway.

Palomar Airport Road at the I-5 freeway was temporarily closed for an extended period of time as officers investigated the cause of the collision.
