ESCONDIDO–Two teens were arrested by Escondido police for starting two brush fires in the city, Escondido police said Thursday.

Officers reported the arrest of two persons who are believed to be responsible for starting at least two fires in the area of South Escondido.

At about 6:30 p.m., a citizen reported seeing two persons who set a small brush fire in the area of South Escondido Blvd.  The citizen was able to put out the small fire and contacted law enforcement. 

At about 7:25 p.m., a citizen who was in the area of Westfield Mall in Escondido contacted police and report he was chasing two persons who he had witnessed attempting to start a fire in the area of Kit Carson Park. The description of the suspects in both cases were similar.

Officers contact two persons matching the description not far from the mall. After questioning, both males were taken into custody for arson related charges. One of the suspects arrested is a 17 year-old juvenile who resides in Escondido.  The other suspect is identified as Isaiah Silva, 19 year-old, of Escondido.

Investigation is continuing. 

UPDATE

The adult in custody, Isaiah David Silva, 19, is being held on $50,000 bail.  The Escondido Police Department’s investigation into this case will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office for possible criminal charges.  Currently, an arraignment has been scheduled for  May 20 at 1:30 p.m. at the North County Regional Center in Vista.

No hearing has currently been scheduled for the juvenile who was arrested.  The District Attorney’s Office will advise the media if a hearing is scheduled where the court can be petitioned for information regarding any potential case.
