San Marcos, CA–Sheriff’s Department detectives are investigating a stabbing incident that seriously injured a man and his dog on a public bike trail early Tuesday morning in San Marcos.
The man was with two friends on the bike trail at 2:30 a.m. near the 800 block of Rancheros Drive. The suspects, Deon Palmer, 32, and Johnnie Kousol, 44 arrived on foot and confronted the victim. During the argument, a bottle was thrown that struck the victim’s dog in the face. The dog sustained a large laceration to his face. The dog was later treated for his injuries. The victim and both suspects continued to argue, and he was stabbed multiple times. The victim sustained multiple cuts and punctures as a result of the physical altercation.
He was able to get away from the suspects and obtained assistance from an unrelated party who called 911. Both suspects fled the location after they stabbed the victim.
Sheriff’s deputies and San Marcos Fire Department personnel assisted the victim and transported him to a local hospital, where he was treated for his non-life threatening injuries.
Deputies searched the area for the suspects and located Palmer at the intersection of East Mission Road and Bennett Avenue. Deputies identified Palmer as one of the suspects. The second suspect, Kousol fled the location and was not located until about 7 a.m. He was contacted by deputies in the 200 block of Woodland Parkway.
Kousol and Palmer were arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility for assault with a deadly weapon, cruelty to animals, and conspiracy.
The investigation is ongoing.
