Escondido, CA–Two people and one firefighter suffered minor injuries following a residential structure fire that broke out Sunday morning in Escondido, fire officials said.

Escondido police and fire personnel responded to reports of a residential fire around 10:23 a.m. at 1749 Fairdale Avenue.

Fire crews arrived on scene to heavy smoke coming from the front of the house. They contained and controlled the blaze in a back bedroom to prevent additional fire spread to the remainder of the house and accessory dwelling unit.

The San Diego Red Cross coordinated alternative housing for the two displaced residents and provided $250 gift cards for basic relief needs.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire officials said working smoke and CO detectors provide effective early warning against house fires, while increasing time for residents to safely escape. Replace old alarms and alarm batteries before family get togethers this holiday season.
