Chula Vista, CA–A female motorcyclist was killed after she reportedly ran a red light at an intersection, and collided with a compact SUV on Saturday in Chula Vista, authorities said.
The Chula Vista Police Department received several 911 calls from motorists of a traffic collision around 11:32 a.m. in the area of Heritage Road and Avenida Escaya.
Officers and Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and rendered first aid to the motorcyclist. She was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital where despite lifesaving measures, the 34-year-old victim was pronounced dead, Public Information Officer Sergeant Anthony Molina said in a news release.
According to police, witnesses at the scene reported seeing the motorcycle enter the intersection against a red light. The motorcycle then struck the side of the SUV which had entered the intersection at a green light. No occupants of the vehicle were injured. The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative. The driver was evaluated and determined to not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The results of the drug and alcohol testing of the motorcyclist are pending.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification to family members by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The collision remains under investigation.
