SAN DIEGO–A pedestrian was seriously injured early Thursday morning when he was hit by an oncoming freight train in San Diego, transit authorities say.

At approximately 4 a.m., deputies from the Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit responded to a BNSF train collision with a pedestrian. The collision occurred on the railroad tracks just north of 5th Street and Harbor Drive in San Diego.

A southbound BNSF Freight Train struck a 43-year-old male. The victim sustained severe, but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to UCSD Medical Center for treatment.
