Julian, CA–Cal Fire crews continue to battle a fast-moving east rural wildfire that forced the evacuation of 500 residents last week in Shelter Valley.
The Southern Fire has burned 5,184 acres and is 55% contained. Firefighters will continue to work throughout the night improving the containment line.
On Monday, authorities lifted evacuation orders for Butterfield Ranch and the surrounding community. Additionally, the road closures along S-2 have also been lifted. Firefighters will continue to work in the area.
The blaze was first reported May 1 at 5 p.m. in the 14000 block of Great Southern Overland Stage near Julian. It destroyed a three-single family residence, and two accessory buildings, according to authorities.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
