SAN DIEGO–The City of San Diego has kick-off its 47th annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program on Saturday.
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and City Councilmember Chris Cate joined representatives from the City’s Environmental Services Department at the Miramar Landfill to officially launch the recycling program.
“By recycling Christmas trees it helps our city meet its ambitious climate action plan by reducing the amount of waste entering our landfill,” San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said. “This reduces our greenhouse gas emissions and gets us closer to our zero waste goal of 2040.”
“The city’s Christmas tree recycling program takes your Christmas trees and recycles them into great products made right here at the Miramar Greenery,” said San Diego City Councilmember Chris Cate.
There will be 17 locations around San Diego where residents can drop off their Christmas trees to be recycled. The program is available to San Diego residents only.
The landfill will accept green and flocked trees with fake snow. All tree stands, bags, netting, lights, ornaments, tinsel, and other tree decorations must be removed prior to dropping off trees.
Artificial trees are not accepted. Residents are encouraged not to illegally dump any other items at the drop-off locations.
