Escondido, CA–A terrifying ordeal unfolded early Thursday morning when an Escondido family was confronted by an intruder wielding a machete and threatening violence.
The Escondido Police Department received a frantic 911 call at 1:35 a.m., reporting an intruder with a machete at a residence on the 1000 block of Camelia Street. When officers arrived at the scene they found several individuals fleeing the house, seeking refuge and assistance. Two men from the residence were seen attempting to subdue the suspect outside the house.
The suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Jesse Angel Martinez of Escondido, was detained by officers. A machete was recovered nearby, and Martinez was found to have sustained a knife wound to his neck, inflicted by one of the residents. Martinez, who is on active California State Parole and a registered sex offender, was treated at the scene by Escondido Fire Department Paramedics before being transported to the hospital for further treatment.
According to police reports, Martinez allegedly broke into the residence and threatened the occupants with the machete, declaring his intent to harm them. The residents fought back, leading to Martinez being stabbed in the neck. While three residents sustained injuries during the altercation, they are all expected to recover.
Upon his release from the hospital, Martinez will be booked into jail on multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, and threatening a crime with intent to terrorize.
