Santee DUI checkpoint leads to multiple arrests, citations

By SDCN Staff

Santee, CA–The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office conducted a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint Saturday night in Santee, resulting in several arrests and citations, authorities said.

The checkpoint was held March 7 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the 8800 block of North Magnolia Avenue and was staffed by deputies from the Santee Sheriff’s Station.

During the operation, 905 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Deputies directed 57 drivers to a secondary screening area for further evaluation.

Three drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. No arrests were made for driving under the influence of drugs.

Deputies also cited 14 drivers for operating a vehicle without a valid license, including those who were unlicensed or driving with a suspended or revoked license. Five vehicles were impounded as part of the enforcement effort.

Officials reminded the public that impaired driving can involve more than alcohol. Some prescription and over-the-counter medications can affect a person’s ability to drive safely. While both medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal in California, authorities emphasized that driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.

Funding for the DUI and driver’s license checkpoint was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
