Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run collision in El Cajon

By Gina Yarbrough

El Cajon, CA–A pedestrian crossing the roadway was fatally struck by a truck in a hit-and-run incident Sunday night, according to the El Cajon Police Department.

The incident occurred at 1368 East Main Street around 5:14 p.m. in El Cajon.

According to El Cajon Police, a 63-year-old man was struck by a white 2005 Dodge Ram truck while crossing the roadway outside a crosswalk. Authorities confirmed the man died at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Witnesses reported that the truck fled westbound on East Main Street after the collision. Using the city’s Flock license plate reader system, investigators obtained the vehicle’s license plate and photo. Police contacted the truck’s registered owner, who helped them locate the driver. The 64-year-old driver cooperated with police and directed them to where the vehicle was parked. He was arrested at 1435 East Main Street for felony hit-and-run.

Authorities say the truck was traveling westbound near 1300 East Main Street when it struck the man. They do not suspect alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.

The El Cajon Police Department urges anyone with information about the collision to call (619) 579-3311.

Pedestrians are reminded to cross at designated intersections, obey traffic signals, and wear visible clothing when walking at night.
