Oceanside, CA–A man was taken into custody Tuesday morning following a prolonged standoff at an Oceanside residence where police are investigating a suspected homicide, authorities said.
Officers with the Oceanside Police Department responded around 9 a.m. to the 2300 block of Fallen Leaf Road after receiving a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive adult woman at the residence. Based on evidence at the scene, investigators believe the woman was the victim of a homicide.
Police said a man believed to be the suspect barricaded himself inside the residence, prompting the deployment of SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams.
After several hours, SWAT officers safely took the man into custody. Authorities said the suspect had inflicted multiple life-threatening injuries on himself before being detained. Personnel from the Oceanside Fire Department provided immediate medical aid before he was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Detectives with the department’s Crimes of Violence Unit are leading the ongoing investigation. The identities of the victim and suspect have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
