El Cajon man arrested in alleged domestic violence

By Gina Yarbrough

El Cajon, CA–A 38-year-old El Cajon man was arrested Monday night after a domestic violence investigation escalated into a vehicle pursuit and attempted assaults on police officers, authorities said.

Officers were called at about 6:49 p.m. to the 1400 block of East Madison Avenue for a report of domestic violence. When officers arrived on the scene, they learned the suspect had allegedly attempted to stab a woman and threatened to kill her. He fled the area before officers arrived, according to the El Cajon Police Department release.

While searching the neighborhood, officers found the suspect’s vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to pull over, initiating a pursuit. During the chase, police said the suspect tried to ram a marked patrol unit occupied by a police supervisor. Additional officers used their vehicle to block the suspect, bringing him to a temporary stop before he fled again. The suspect returned to the location of the original domestic violence call, where officers deployed a Taser and took him into custody.

Two officers were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries suffered during the vehicle intervention. The female victim was also transported for medical care. The suspect sustained minor injuries and was booked into the county jail on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer and attempted murder in connection with the domestic violence incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the El Cajon Police Department at (619) 579-3311 or submit an anonymous tip through sdcrimestoppers.org.
