Oceanside, CA–A Camp Pendleton Marine was killed when his motorcyclist crashed into a vehicle in North County Sunday evening, authorities said.
The Oceanside Police Department responded to calls of a major injury collision involving a vehicle and a motorcycle near the intersection of Douglas Drive and North River Road in Oceanside around 7:51 p.m.
According to police, a white Volkswagen Passat turned left from northbound Douglas Drive into the Arco AM/PM gas station. A motorcyclist on a black Indian Scout was traveling southbound on Douglas Drive and struck the right front fender of the Volkswagen.
The motorcyclist, a 20-year-old active-duty Marine, was ejected from his motorcycle and was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics.
The driver of the vehicle, a 64-year-old Carlsbad resident, remained on scene and she was cooperative with law enforcement. The driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to Sgt, Clint Bussey of the department’s Traffic Services Unit.
The identity of the deceased motorcyclist is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
The Oceanside Police Department’s traffic division investigated the collision.
