National City, CA–The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation partnered with the San Diego Padres and the National School District to distribute 1,000 complimentary turkeys to San Diego families, giving back to the community in time for Thanksgiving.
On November 21, family members with students attending one of the 10 public schools within the National School District, Preschool Center, Integrity Charter School, National City Middle School, and Granger Junior High School lined up at the Best Western Plus Marina Gateway Hotel to receive their turkey.
Members from the Sycuan Tribal Council; National School District Superintendent Assistant, Vanessa Cesena, and San Diego Padres team members were present at the giveaway, helping distribute the turkeys to families.
“We know the holiday season can be challenging for families sometimes, so we partnered with the San Diego Padres and National School district to ensure others can celebrate the holiday together,” said Cody Martinez, chairman, of Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation. “No one should go without a meal to share or a reason to give thanks.”
The Sycuan Tribal Government operates one of the region’s premier Indian gaming and resort facilities, the Sycuan Casino Resort. The tribe demonstrates its strong commitment to the San Diego region through hundreds of civic and charitable organizations.
“We are grateful for the incredible partnership with the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation that will benefit our community today and excited for the continued opportunities we’ll create together in the future,” said Michelle Gates, National School District Board President.
The Padres Foundation, established in 1995, is the primary source of funding for the club’s outreach initiatives in the areas of children’s health and wellness, education, youth baseball/softball, military, and first responders.
