San Diego, CA–The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality has issued several beach management actions for Saturday, including a water contact closure in Imperial Beach and continued advisories at La Jolla Cove and La Jolla Children’s Pool.
The water contact closure at Carnation Avenue in Imperial Beach has been lifted after recent water quality samples met state health standards.
A new water contact closure has been issued for the end of Seacoast Drive and Cortez Avenue in Imperial Beach. County health officials said the Tijuana River is flowing and reaching recreational waters in the area.
Beachgoers are advised to avoid contact with ocean water in the affected area because it may contain sewage and could cause illness. The closure will remain in effect until water quality sampling and field observations confirm that the area is safe for recreational water contact.
Meanwhile, La Jolla Cove and La Jolla Children’s Pool remain under water quality advisories. County officials said bacteria levels have exceeded state health standards and may cause illness.
The ocean shoreline from the International Border through the Imperial Beach Pier also remains closed to water contact. Officials are advising the public to avoid entering the water because it has been impacted by sewage.
Health officials will continue monitoring water quality and will lift closures and advisories when sampling and field observations indicate that the affected areas are safe for recreational water contact.
