SANTEE–The Sheriff’s Department’s Santee Traffic Division released the results of a a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint conducted on Friday in Santee.
The checkpoint was conducted between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m., near the 9200 block of Carlton Hills Boulevard in Santee.
A total of 861 drivers were contacted during the checkpoint. The operation resulted in 4 DUI arrests. Approximately 46 drivers were directed into the secondary inspection area for further evaluation. Six citations were issued for having a suspended/revoked or no driver’s license, and 8 vehicles were impounded during the operation.
The checkpoint was staffed by approximately 10 DUI trained deputies. The goal of the checkpoint and saturation was to remove impaired and/or unlicensed drivers from the roadway, public education, and deterrence, thereby increasing the safety of all drivers, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Funding for the DUI checkpoint operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
