VISTA–Authorities released the name of the inmate found unresponsive at the Vista Detention Facility in October.
On October 16, at about 9:30 a.m., deputies at the facility responded to an inmate who was in medical distress. They found the inmate, 81-year-old Nathan Lee Brogan, unresponsive in the dayroom area of the housing module. Deputies and medical staff performed life-saving measures until relieved by fire department personnel. Brogan was transported to a local area hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Brogan was booked into custody into Sheriff’s custody on September 4, 2018, by the San Diego Police Department for attempted murder, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, assault with a deadly weapon, illegal discharge of a firearm and use of a firearm in a felony. He was later transferred to Patton State Hospital.
On September 17, Brogan was transferred back into Sheriff’s custody awaiting a court hearing scheduled in November. The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded to investigate the death. No evidence of foul play was discovered. The Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and completed their reports. They determined the cause of death to be acute myocardial infarction and the manner of death to be natural.
