San Diego, CA–San Diego Loyal midfielder Alejandro Guido was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week after helping San Diego Loyal to a 2-1 win against Orange County SC in a Week 17 match on June 29.

Guido scored a pair of goals in the club’s ninth win of the season to help propel his team to a then 9W-4L-4D record with 31 points before beating Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Monday, July 4.

Against Orange County SC, the Chula Vista native scored after he recovered a Tumi Moshobane shot that squeezed between the legs of Orange County SC goalkeeper Colin Shutler. The ball remained spinning by the goal line when Guido beat a diving Shutler to it and sent in his third goal of 2022.  Guido also converted a penalty kick for his second score of the night and fourth of the season to seal the SD Loyal win. He also recorded three shots overall and completed 15 of 20 passes in that match.

The attacking midfielder has started in 17 matches this season, playing in 1,363 minutes and recording three assists. He has been an integral part of the SD Loyal attack and in the mix of the coaching staff’s defensive strategies.

This is the second time this season that Guido has been named to the league’s Team of the Week after first appearing on March 29 for his Week 3 performance.
