ENCINITAS–A woman crossing a road in Encinitas Thursday was struck and killed by a vehicle, the Sheriff’s Department said.

At approximately 6:40 p.m., the Sheriff’s Communication Center received a call of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian near the intersection of Mountain Vista Drive and El Camino Real.

A 54-year-old female pedestrian was crossing Mountain Vista Drive, when she was struck by a Toyota Corolla heading eastbound on Mountain Vista Drive. Alcohol and drugs are not a factor on the collision, according to Sheriff’s deputies. 

Life saving measures was performed on the pedestrian, but she succumbed to her injuries.

The collision is under investigation.
