CARLSBAD–A pedestrian walking across the tracks was struck and killed by an on-coming train, Sheriff’s deputies said Tuesday.
Deputies from the Rail Enforcement Unit responded to investigate a pedestrian who had been struck by a southbound Amtrak train in the city of Carlsbad.
The pedestrian was walking westbound across the tracks using the pedestrian crossing located at the south end of the station. All warning devices were active and functioning properly to indicate the approach of a train. The pedestrian was fatally struck by the approaching train.
A manner and cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
