San Diego, CA–A pedestrian was struck and killed early Wednesday morning while walking within the traffic lanes of Interstate 805 northbound, and north of Interstate 8 in San Diego, authorities said.
The incident was reported around 4:48 a.m. when a Chrysler sedan, driven by a 41-year-old female struck the man. The uninjured driver remained at the scene following the collision. Authorities closed several lanes during the on-scene investigation for approximately one hour, CHP Officer Jesse Matias stated in a news release.
According to CHP, the driver was not suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
A toxicology report on the pedestrian is pending through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. The name of the man is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
The cause of the collision and sequence of events is still under investigation by the CHP San Diego office.
