Oceanside, CA–Seven people and their pets were displaced after a residential fire broke out in the garage early Tuesday morning in Oceanside, authorities said.
The Oceanside Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire after 12:15a.m. at 2559 Joann Dr. Fire crews arrived to find fire in the garage of a two-story single-family home. They quickly initiated an offensive fire attack and were able to isolate and extinguish the fire in the garage, preventing it from extending into the living areas or attic of the home.
Seven occupants were inside the residence at the time of the fire, including four adults and three children. All occupants were able to safely evacuate the home prior to firefighters arriving. Firefighters also confirmed that the family’s pets, including two dogs and a cat, were safely removed from the residence.
Fire officials remind residents that working smoke alarms and residential fire sprinkler systems play an important role in protecting lives and property. Sprinkler systems can help control a fire in its early stages, significantly reducing damage, while properly functioning smoke alarms provide critical early warning that allow occupants time to escape safely.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Oceanside Fire Department investigators. No injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
