San Diego, CA–The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office released information regarding the death of a man who was in custody at the San Diego Central Jail.
On March 8, at approximately 2:55 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies at the San Diego Central Jail were performing their routine duties when they discovered Parker hanging inside his assigned cell. He was housed alone. Upon observing the situation, the deputies immediately activated 9-1-1, requested assistance from the facility’s medical staff, and began life-saving measures.
San Diego Fire Department paramedics transported Parker to a local hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the hospital on March 10 at approximately 1:15 p.m.
Parker was arrested by San Diego police on February 14, and had been in Sheriff’s custody since February 15. He was facing charges of murder and assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury.
“The San Diego Sheriff’s Office extends our sympathies to the decedent’s family and all those affected by his passing. A Sheriff’s Family Liaison Officer will continue to support the family during this difficult time,” the Sheriff’s Office stated in a release.
The Citizens’ Law Enforcement Review Board was notified regarding the incident. As is the protocol for all in-custody deaths, the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and is conducting a thorough investigation to ensure all aspects of this incident are examined.
The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
