Pedestrian fatally struck by Coaster train

Del Mar, CA–An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a North County Transit District Coaster train along the bluffs in Del Mar on Sunday, authorities said.

The train collision occurred around 9:53 p.m. just north of Torrey Pines State Beach. Sheriff’s deputies and fire personnel responded to the scene and declared the victim deceased due to the injuries he sustained, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.    

The Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit was called to investigate the incident on North County Transit District property. 

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will make an identification of the victim, as well as determine the cause and manner of death pending notification of his family.
