El Cajon, CA–In a concerted effort to crack down on retail theft, the El Cajon Police Department executed a comprehensive operation in collaboration with JC Penney and Dick’s Sporting Goods in East County.
During the one-day operation, investigators teamed up with store staff to monitor and apprehend individuals involved in theft activities. The coordinated effort led to five arrests and the recovery of over $800 in stolen merchandise. Arrested were four juveniles, who were released to their guardians after processing.
According to El Cajon Police, Noureddin Abtini, 21, of El Cajon, was apprehended during the operation. Abtini is suspected of being involved in a series of thefts from local salon supply stores over the past year, with losses exceeding $3,000 in merchandise. At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of an additional $600 in merchandise as well as methamphetamine. His criminal record includes multiple arrests for commercial burglary, grand theft, and drug-related offenses.
“The El Cajon Police Department will use every resource available to hold criminals who commit these types of thefts accountable. Criminal acts will not be tolerated and will have consequences for those who commit them,” he stated in the department’s news release.
The successful operation underscores the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and local businesses in tackling crime and ensuring community safety.
