Escondido, CA–One person was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, and 38 people were cited at a license checkpoint in Escondido on Friday, the Escondido Police Department said.
Officers issued 34 citations to motorists for driving without a license, and four for driving on a suspended license.
The checkpoint was operated from 6 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. at Broadway and 2nd Avenue. Approximately 2,324 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 817 motorists were contacted.
The Escondido Police Department stated that checkpoint locations are strategically selected in areas with a history of impaired driving incidents. The primary objective is to improve public safety by identifying and removing impaired drivers from the roadways.
The next DUI checkpoint in Escondido is scheduled for February 7.
The operation was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, in collaboration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
