Oceanside, CA–A fast-moving brush fire in Oceanside’s Eastside Capistrano neighborhood on Saturday threatened nearby homes and prompted evacuation orders before firefighters brought the blaze under control.
Oceanside Fire Department crews, assisted by the Oceanside Police Department, responded to reports of a vegetation fire that ignited near the base of North Loretta Street.
Fueled by steep terrain and windy conditions, the fire quickly spread uphill, threatening residences along San Juan Place and Santa Anita Street. As conditions deteriorated and the risk to homes increased, police issued evacuation orders for affected areas as a precautionary measure.
Firefighters were able to stop the fire’s forward progress within approximately 45 minutes, preventing it from spreading further into residential neighborhoods. The blaze burned an estimated 2.5 acres.
Authorities reported no immediate injuries to civilians and no structural damage resulting from the fire.
Oceanside Fire hand crews remained at the scene after containment, conducting mop-up operations and extinguishing remaining hot spots.
During the investigation, Oceanside police identified two juvenile suspects. The juveniles were questioned and later released to their parents.
Officials said the incident remains under investigation.
