Oceanside, CA–The City of Oceanside is continuing its new round of roadway improvements across various areas of the city this summer as part of its ongoing Pavement Management Program, with projects focusing primarily on major arterial corridors and high-traffic streets.
Oceanside maintains an extensive roadway network of approximately 490 miles of city streets and 16 miles of alleys, totaling nearly 90 million square feet of pavement. Maintaining a network of this size requires a data-driven approach to ensure limited funding delivers the greatest impact. Roadway conditions are evaluated regularly and improvements are scheduled to help extend pavement life and maintain reliable travel.
The pavement rehabilitation projects include improvements on Oceanside Boulevard, Mesa Drive, College Boulevard, Mission Avenue, Mission Gate, Thunder Drive, and the Landes Park area.
Additional project areas are being finalized and will be announced soon.
In addition, smaller area lane repairs are planned through April 21 by the Public Works Department at College Blvd. from Olive Drive to Thunder Drive, Coast Highway from Morse Street to Kelly Street, Douglas Drive from El Camino Real to Mission Ave., College Blvd. from Olive Drive to Thunder Drive, and El Camino Real from Vista Oceana to Mesa Drive.
Planned improvements include a variety of pavement treatments designed to improve ride quality and extend the lifespan of city streets, including asphalt grind and overlay, slurry seal applications, and other preventative pavement maintenance.
Construction will take place in phases, and residents may encounter temporary disruptions, including lane closures and parking restrictions, as crews work to upgrade and improve local roadways.
Maintaining streets is an ongoing effort and that the Pavement Management Plan will continue to guide improvements. Measure X, the City’s half cent sales tax has helped fund over $34M in road repairs since 2019.
