San Marcos, CA–A 79-year-old bicyclist suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a vehicle at an intersection of San Marcos Boulevard and Via Vera Cruz in San Marcos on Tuesday morning, authorities said. 

The Sheriff’s Department Communications Center received a call at 9: 15 a.m. about the collision. Deputies arrived at the location and discovered the bicyclist on the ground. The 23-year-old male driver was not injured. Paramedic personnel arrived at the location, rendered medical aid to the bicyclist, and transported him to Palomar Medical Center, where he is currently being treated for potentially life-threatening injuries, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision. 

Traffic investigators are handling the investigation.
