Carlsbad, CA–A man was taken into custody in connection with a hit-and-run collision that seriously injured a 15-year-old female pedestrian, the Carlsbad Police Department said Tuesday.
Carlsbad police responded to the intersection of Chestnut Avenue and Highland Drive regarding a vehicle that had struck a pedestrian and fled the scene.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the teen with serious injuries. Carlsbad Fire Department medical personnel transported her to a local area hospital.
According to Carlsbad police, the pedestrian was crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk at the intersection of Chestnut Avenue and Highland Drive. The suspect vehicle was driving southbound on Highland Drive and making a left turn to go eastbound on Chestnut Avenue. The vehicle collided with the pedestrian in the unmarked crosswalk. Following the collision, the driver exited his vehicle, moved her off the roadway onto the sidewalk, and fled the scene before officers arrived.
Officers later identified Joshua Weber, 42, from Winchester, CA, as the driver of the vehicle. On Thursday afternoon, Weber was taken into custody in San Diego, and was booked into the San Diego County Jail for felony hit-and-run.
