San Diego, CA–The Chula Vista Community Foundation awarded $60,000 to three local nonprofits that provide opportunities for the health and socio-emotional well-being of youth ages 12 to 24, organizers said.
The Chula Vista Community Foundation, a regional affiliate of the San Diego Foundation, presented the awards at the annual Grant Awards celebration.
“We want to work with local organizations closest to our youth to ensure that as a community we’re uplifting our young people academically, socially, and emotionally,” said Carmen Richardson, Chula Vista Community board chair. “We’re looking forward to seeing our youth overcome some of the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic brought and will continue to support their success every step of the way.”
Since 2011, Chula Vista Community has granted more than $600,000 to almost 40 nonprofit programs that strengthen the quality of life for all who live, work, and enjoy Chula Vista.
The list of 2022-2023 grantees:
$25,000 to Barrio Logan College Institute for its after-school program focused on learning recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
$25,000 to Southwestern College Foundation for its SWC Cares Program which was created to aid students at risk of dropping out of college due to unexpected financial emergencies.
$10,000 to San Diego Hunger Coalition for its Hunger Free Kids program that helps school districts in San Diego County to increase participation in school meals and Pandemic EBT (P-EBT), thereby boosting the household food budgets of families in need.
The Regional Affiliate program, including the Chula Vista Community Foundation, was established by San Diego Foundation to create a regional network of affiliate foundations by leveraging local leadership, building endowments, increasing impactful philanthropy, and promoting civic engagement. Affiliates reside in Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona, Rancho Bernardo, and 4S Ranch-Del Sur. The Regional Affiliate program has exceeded 1,000 members, established endowments of more than $5 million overall, and granted more than $6 million in total to nonprofit organizations throughout the region.
