San Marcos, CA–Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 52-year-old man on August 1 in San Marcos after a license plate recognition camera alerted authorities to a vehicle associated with a wanted suspect.
Deputies had been searching for Ivan Chi, who had two active felony arrest warrants for identity theft and possession of a controlled substance for sale.
They received an alert from the License Plate Recognition camera system at 8:30 a.m., indicating that Chi’s vehicle was near West Mission Road and Barham Drive. Deputies located the vehicle and detained Chi, who was seated inside.
During the investigation, deputies reportedly found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in Chi’s possession.
Chi was arrested on the outstanding warrants and additional charges, including possession of a controlled substance with prior convictions and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
