Del Mar, CA–A San Diego man was arrested Thursday evening after authorities say he made a violent threat toward Del Mar City Hall, authorities confirmed.
Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station responded just after 4:30 p.m. on September 4 to a report of a threatening phone call made to staff at City Hall in the 1000 block of Camino Del Mar. Investigators said the caller made statements about “shooting up” the facility.
Deputies conducted a safety sweep of the Del Mar Civic Center to secure the area. Out of precaution, city officials canceled a scheduled public concert planned at the Civic Center that evening.
Investigators identified the suspect as Kyle Knudsen, 41, of San Diego. Deputies and detectives located Knudsen later that evening outside his home in the 1400 block of Garnet Avenue, where he was arrested without incident.
A registered firearm and an illegal 15-round magazine were recovered at the scene, officials said. Possession of large-capacity magazines is prohibited under California Penal Code 32310.
Knudsen was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of making criminal threats and possession of a large-capacity magazine.
The Sheriff’s Office urged the public to report any threats or suspicious activity to law enforcement or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
