Oceanside, CA–A man armed with a stick and a rock was fatally shot by a resident during a home invasion in Oceanside on Monday evening, according to authorities.
The Oceanside Police Department responded to a radio call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon in the 4100 block of Diamond Circle in the Tri-City area around 7:22 p.m.
According to police, the residents were at home when the suspect entered their backyard, armed with a 3-foot wooden stake and a rock. The suspect gained access to a bedroom through an open sliding door.
Authorities believe the suspect may have attempted to enter at least one other home. A rock was thrown through a sliding glass window of another residence, shattering the glass. It remains unclear if the suspect entered that home, as the residents were not present then. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect walking along the rear property lines from Olive Avenue before the incident.
The suspect’s identity has not been released pending notification to his family.
The investigation is ongoing.
