San Diego, CA–Large breaking waves combined with high tides are expected to cause minor coastal flooding along San Diego County beaches beginning Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service San Diego.
Forecasters said waves of 5 to 8 feet, with occasional sets reaching up to 9 feet, are forecast from 4 a.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday. The heightened surf, coupled with elevated tides, is expected to create hazardous conditions along the coast.
Predicted high tides at La Jolla include a 6.4-foot tide at 8:53 a.m. Monday, followed by a 4.4-foot tide at 10:11 p.m. Monday, and a 5.9-foot tide at 9:34 a.m. Tuesday.
The National Weather Service urged inexperienced swimmers to stay out of the water due to dangerous swimming and surfing conditions. Localized beach erosion is also possible during the event.
Minor flooding is anticipated in low-lying coastal areas, including parking lots, parks, and roadways, with only isolated road closures expected. Officials advised the public not to drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth and to take necessary precautions to protect property in flood-prone areas.
