ENCINITAS–A motorcyclist died Sunday after he collided with a Sheriff’s deputy patrol vehicle in Encinitas, authorities said.
The 1130 a.m. incident occurred when the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on South Coast Highway 101 from W. D Street in Encinitas. Witnesses reported the rider was traveling at a high rate of speed, according to Lt. Karen Stubkjaer, of the Sheriff’s department.
At the same time, a deputy was traveling southbound on South Coast Highway 101 and began a left turning moving in the 300 block. The motorcyclist collided with the rear passenger side door of the deputy’s patrol vehicle. Life saving measures were rendered immediately, however the motorcyclist passed away at the scene.
