San Marcos, CA–A 12-year-old from Los Angeles County was arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of making a bomb threat at San Marcos High School, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
On Friday, around 8 a.m., deputies responded to San Marcos High School to investigate a bomb threat that placed the campus on lockdown. The campus was searched using bomb-sniffing K-9s.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, nothing suspicious was located after a thorough search of the school grounds. After a follow-up investigation, San Marcos Sheriff’s detectives identified a possible juvenile suspect from Los Angeles County.
On Saturday, just after 7 a.m., San Marcos Sheriff’s detectives with the assistance of Los Angeles County Sheriff deputies served a search warrant at a home in Los Angeles County. During the search, San Marcos detectives were able to confirm the phone used to call in the bomb threat was in the bedroom of the juvenile. The juvenile was arrested for the bomb threat and released to the custody of the mother.
Because the suspect is a minor, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department cannot release any further information at this time.
