EAST COUNTY–Authorities are investigating a freeway shooting on State Route 125 that left a driver seriously injured, San Diego Sheriff’s Department said Monday.

Just before 8 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call of a shooting on northbound SR-125. 

According to investigators, the victim, a 28-year-old man, approached the terminus of the SR-125 at Mission Gorge Road, when a black SUV began driving parallel to the victim’s vehicle. An occupant of the SUV fired several shots into the direction of the victim’s vehicle, striking him in the the neck. The victim was transported to a local hospital and was later released.

The suspect(s) is unknown and still outstanding.

Detectives from the Santee Sheriff’s Station are investigating the case.
