CARLSBAD–A man driving at a high rate of speed Tuesday was seriously injured when he collided with another vehicle in Carlsbad, the Carlsbad Police Department said.

At approximately 12:41 p.m., Carlsbad police officers responded to Alicante Road south of Tanzanite Drive for a report of a vehicle collision.

Officers located a Honda CR-V and a Dodge Durango that had been involved in a head-on collision.

Investigators said a man driving the Honda CR-V was travelling northbound on Alicante Road at a high rate of speed when he crossed over into the oncoming traffic lane and hit the Dodge Durango head-on.

The driver of the Honda CR-V was identified as a 62-year-old man of Carlsbad. He was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. The driver of the Dodge Durango was identified as a 44-year-old man of Oceanside who left the scene with minor scratches. 

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
