San Diego, CA–A man was struck and killed Wednesday by a Coaster train in San Diego, authorities said.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:55 p.m. near the intersection of Noell Street and Kurtz Street, the Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit stated in the department’s news release.

When San Diego Police officers arrived at the scene of the collision, they found an adult male who was hit by a northbound Coaster train. The victim was evaluated by San Diego Fire Department personnel but was fatally injured by the train.

The Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit is called to investigate incidents along the routes of the North County Transit District which the Coaster uses. San Diego police requested the Sheriff’s unit to respond and conduct the investigation.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will make an identification of the man, as well as determine the cause and manner of death pending notification of his family.
