VISTA–A man found unresponsive on the ground in a parking lot Thursday evening died from a fatal gunshot wound, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Shortly after 9:30 p.m., a security guard was on patrol in the area of 2500 South Santa Fe Avenue in the unincorporated area of Vista. The guard located an adult male lying in a parking lot. The guard checked the welfare of the male and believed he had been shot and was not breathing. The guard called 911 and deputies and fire department personnel arrived to the location.
Upon arrival, paramedics attempted life saving measures, but the male was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit assumed responsibility of the investigation. During the initial response, deputies contacted several potential witnesses in the area and the investigation is continuing.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will notify the next of kin and perform an autopsy to determine the male’s cause and manner of death.
