Coast Guard interdicts 10 migrants off Point Loma

By SDCN Staff

San Diego, CA–The U.S. Coast Guard intercepted a small vessel carrying 10 suspected migrants early Monday morning, approximately nine miles southwest of Point Loma, officials said.

According to the Coast Guard, watchstanders at Sector San Diego’s Joint Harbor Operations Center detected an unidentified vessel heading toward U.S. waters around 2:30 a.m. and dispatched a nearby cutter to investigate.

At about 4 a.m., a boarding team from the Coast Guard Cutter Forrest Rednour (WPC 1129) intercepted a 15-foot panga boat with 10 people aboard. All individuals on the vessel claimed Mexican nationality.

The Coast Guard transported the passengers and vessel to another Department of Homeland Security agency at Ballast Point for further processing.
