OCEANSIDE–North County residents Saturday honored the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day of service.

The North San Diego County NAACP and MiraCosta College Service Learning hosted the annual Day of Service Community project in collaboration with the nation-wide efforts to honor the late civil rights leader.

Volunteers gathered at the campus around 8 a.m. to signup for a community project in the area.

“It’s a great opportunity to place core principles of citizenship and service into action. Volunteerism is a powerful tool that unites us around a common purpose and aids in building a stronger community,” the North San Diego County NAACP said on their Facebook page.

The community projects ranged from maintenance, clean-ups, to repairs at several local nonprofit organizations.
